The first time I saw the BRIDESMAIDS trailer I fell out of my chair laughing – this was circa two months ago – so to say that I was eagerly anticipating the release of this movie would definitely be an understatement. It seemed that not only was the movie going to be stomach achingly hilarious, but it was also somehow, a view of what my life has been and is to be again this summer. Being as excited as I was about this flick, I decided to throw a party for it…yes, I missed my Hollywood premiere days of ole, so I was going to host one on my own. I thought I’d also make it and easy way for people to give back, so as part of the guests duties of attendance – everyone was asked to bring an old bridesmaid dress that we could donate to the Cinderella/ Cinderfella Projectthat donates formal attire to high school seniors who can’t afford prom wear. Giving back…easy.
As the party planning was rolling on(champagne, check. Brides cake and grooms cake, check.) I began to read about all that BRIDESMAIDS was standing for in Hollywood. The female driven comedy is a dying breed currently, and all of Tinsel Town was looking to Kristen Wiig to see if it was she that could turn things around. Quite a burden I would imagine, but now the premiere party became about donating to a cause and supporting a cause…yes, it was all as easy as going to the movies. It’s true…even the smallest (and most fun) things really can make a difference. So, did we succeed? Well, the dress donation was a true success thanks to all of my friends and looking at the early numbers from Boxofficemojo.com although BRIDESMAIDS won’t be #1, it will be #2 and will well exceed what people thought it was going to make. My thoughts, there won’t be much drop off next week in the numbers either…the film was hysterical and word of mouth will get people to keep going and racking in the cash for this awesome film. Way to go Kristen, I think the chicks might be making a come back.
Oh By the Way:Not familiar with SNL’s Kristen Wiig…you may know her as Kathy Lee (I just can’t get enough of her)
Let’s Be Honest: Really, BRIDESMAIDS is a must see for anyone!
