At Fashion Week earlier this month, I had pleasure of meeting Spanish handbag designer Inés Figaredo. Crowded in Norisol Ferrari’s Fall 2012 Preview, I basically bumped into the lovely Inés, and upon seeing the interesting bag she was toting, immediately petitioned her for a picture of her paper bin bag. Mentioning that she was the designer, she took the Hamlet Skull from her friend’s hand to show me more of her designs.
And in entering her world, if only through her website and blog, the land of the art-bag immediately beckons us, the mere mortals. Inés’ whimsical concepts are met with strong attention to detail that makes the tale of the bag that much more enchanting. One isn’t just carrying an homage to a waste bin, no! Opening the pinned latch let’s me think–for a moment–that I might be opening the lock to the Secret Garden. Instead of just grabbing my lip gloss.
Patricia Field on Bowery carries some of the bags, more available though InesFigaredo.com, and see a bit more of Inés Figaredo’s world on her blog, InesFigaredosWorld.
Oh, by the way: Ines’s business partner was pleased to share that Lady Gaga has already purchased one.
Let’s be honest: If only once I could beat Gaga to the couture.
