I can’t keep up - new spots to eat in Downtown LA open up weekly! One spot I’ve been watching through months of construction, like a caterpillar in it’s cocoon becoming a butterfly, is Towne Restaurant. As excited as I was to have a new potential favorite restaurant one block from my office, I worried it would be a dud, like I heard it’s sister property in Pasadena is. Thankfully that is not the case at all!
The desserts are definitely a highlight at Towne. They “stole” their pastry chef from nearby Bottega Louie so there is now a macaron rivalry happening in Downtown LA. The best kind of rivalry, if you ask me. They also offer fun treats like homemade Twinkies and Push-Pops which just look fun.
Not to be outdone by the last course, the entire menu is delicious from the Lobster Chef Salad with “croutons” made from small breaded shrimp, to brussel sprouts with bacon in an unexpected sweet-n-sour sauce. I do think this restaurant needs to mature a bit and figure out its niche amongst the great competition but it’s off to a great start as a freshman in the area.
